Convert PDF to JPG

RequirementValue
InputOne or more PDFs
OutputOne image per page
DPI72 to 300
Size targetPer image, optional

Each page becomes its own image. If there are several, you can download them individually or as one ZIP.

Choose the DPI by what the image is for

DPI decides how many pixels each page becomes, and it is the setting that matters most here. 72 gives the smallest files and is enough for a thumbnail. 150 is the sensible default for reading on a screen and for most portal uploads. 300 is what a printer expects and produces files several times larger.

Picking 300 when the image is only going to be uploaded wastes size you will then have to compress away, which loses more quality than choosing 150 in the first place.

Why a portal asks for images

Some upload slots accept only JPEG even for documents. Police verification is one — its supporting documents must be images between 75 and 100 KB, not PDFs. Converting here and then fitting the band is the two-step answer, or use the document tool, which does both at once.

Set a size target per image

The target applies to each page separately, not to the set. That is usually what a form wants, since each slot has its own limit.

What is lost

An image cannot hold selectable text, so the result is not searchable and cannot be copied from. A digital signature is also gone, because the signature belongs to the PDF and not to the picture of it. If the document is digitally signed and the portal accepts PDFs, submit the PDF.

Password-protected PDFs cannot be read here. Remove the password in the application that created it first.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a PDF page to JPG?

Add the PDF, choose a DPI, and press Run. Each page comes out as its own image, and several pages can be downloaded together as a ZIP.

What DPI should I choose?

150 for reading on screen and for most portal uploads, 72 for the smallest possible files, and 300 only if the image is going to be printed.

Why does a portal want a JPG instead of a PDF?

Some upload slots accept only images. Police verification, for example, wants its supporting documents as JPEG between 75 and 100 KB.

Can I convert a password-protected PDF?

No. Remove the password in the application that created the file first, then convert it here.
