Add name and date to a photograph

RequirementValue
PlacementWhite band below, or over the photo
Sizes3.5x4.5 cm, 200x230, custom
OutputJPEG at a KB target

SSC, UPSC and several state boards will not accept a photograph unless the candidate name and the date it was taken are printed on it. Their own specimen shows a white band under the picture with two lines of text, and that is what this page produces by default.

Type the name and the date. Today's date is filled in already, so change it only if the photograph was taken on another day. Leave either field blank to print just the other.

The text is sized to the band and shrinks automatically until the longest line fits the width, so a long name is never cut off. Choose the overlay placement instead if the form wants the text across the bottom of the picture rather than below it.

The whole thing is then fitted to the pixel size and KB range the form asks for, which is where most rejections actually happen. A photograph with the name printed but the wrong dimensions is refused just the same.

Frequently asked questions

Which exams need the name and date on the photograph?

SSC, UPSC and several state boards will not accept a photograph without the candidate name and the date it was taken printed on it. Their specimen shows a white band under the picture.

What date should I print?

The date the photograph was taken. Today's date is filled in already, so change it if the picture is older.

What if my name is too long for the band?

The text shrinks automatically until the longest line fits the width, so a long name is never cut off. You can also increase the band height.

Should the text be below the photo or over it?

Below is the default because that is what the specimens show. Choose the overlay option only if the form specifically wants the text across the bottom of the picture.
